Gallagher / Cardax Compatible Credentials
Gallagher Security — formerly trading under the Cardax brand — operates one of the more technically layered credential ecosystems in commercial access control. The platform spans low-frequency proximity cards originally defined by the Cardax IV regional encoding scheme, through to high-frequency smart-card tiers that use manufacturer-issued site keys. That breadth means a single site may carry both LF and HF readers, and replacement credentials must match precisely at the protocol level.
Security ID Systems manufactures and sources compatible credentials across the full Gallagher range. Our Gallagher compatible proximity card products target the LF installed base, while our HF lines address the MIFARE and DESFire tiers deployed on newer Gallagher controllers. For facilities managers and integrators who need reliable replenishment stock without minimum-order pressure from a single-vendor channel, we are a practical independent supply option.
Gallagher installations are common across the Oceania, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and UK markets, and the format has historically been under-served by third-party credential suppliers — particularly at the HF tiers. Our catalogue addresses that gap directly.
Cardax IV LF vs MIFARE / DESFire Tiers
The original Cardax IV proximity format operates at 125 kHz and encodes a region code alongside the facility and card number. It is carried on T5577 or EM4305 re-writable substrates, which allows a compatible blank to be programmed to the exact bit pattern your readers expect. This is the same principle applied to all 125 kHz LF proximity cards and fobs in our catalogue: the substrate is generic; the data encoding matches the target system's specification.
Modern Gallagher deployments use 13.56 MHz smart-card credentials — typically genuine NXP MIFARE Classic 1K, MIFARE Plus, or NXP DESFire EV1/EV2 — with a proprietary application layer and a site-specific key written by the Gallagher Command Centre. These sit firmly in the 13.56 MHz HF smart-card tier. Our Gallagher Cardax compatible card for HF formats ships as a compatible blank built on genuine NXP silicon; the Gallagher system itself writes the application and site key during enrolment, exactly as it does with any new credential.
Gallagher also operates a Tier-S enterprise format, which is scarce in the third-party market. Where a site requires Tier-S credentials, we recommend contacting us directly to discuss availability and lead time rather than assuming standard catalogue stock will apply.
Compatible LF Cards vs Compatible HF Blanks
The supply model differs meaningfully between the two frequency tiers, and understanding that difference prevents ordering errors. For Cardax IV LF, we can supply credentials pre-encoded to your site's region code, facility code, and card-number range — ready to issue straight from the pack. These use the same Gallagher compatible proximity card substrate we supply for the 16-bit variant and encode cleanly on T5577 or EM4305 chips. Provide your current card data, and we programme to match.
For the MIFARE and DESFire HF tiers, the Gallagher site key is held by your Command Centre and is never shared externally — nor should it be. The correct supply model is compatible blank credentials built on genuine NXP silicon, delivered unenrolled. Your Gallagher system enrols each credential during the normal card-issue process, writing the application data and site key exactly as it would with any new card. This is standard practice for enterprise proprietary formats at this security tier and is consistent with how Gallagher designed the enrolment workflow.
If you are unsure which tier your site uses, check the reader model or the credential type shown in the Gallagher Command Centre card database. LF readers typically display a Cardax IV or proximity-only credential type; HF readers reference MIFARE or DESFire. Our technical team can also advise based on your controller generation.
Encoded or Enrolled by Your System
We offer two fulfilment paths to suit different operational workflows. Pre-encoded LF credentials are programmed to customer specification and are particularly useful when a site needs to issue large credential batches without an on-site encoder, or when replacing a legacy card population across multiple locations. For advice on how pre-encoding compares to supplying blanks, our compatible vs genuine cards buyer's guide covers the trade-offs clearly.
For HF tiers, the blank-plus-enrolment path is both the correct technical approach and the most operationally secure one. It means credential data never leaves your Gallagher installation, and the site key is not exposed at any point in the supply chain. The same logic applies to Gallagher proximity card compatible stock supplied for mixed LF/HF sites: we match the substrate to the reader tier, and your system handles the identity layer.
Bulk orders are handled with standard lead times for LF stock, and slightly longer lead times for HF blanks depending on chip availability. Volume pricing applies from modest quantities — contact us for a project quote. Integrators managing multiple Gallagher-equipped sites can discuss standing-order arrangements.
Request a Gallagher Quote
To obtain a quote, we need: the credential tier (Cardax IV LF, MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, DESFire EV1/EV2, or Tier-S), the quantity required, whether you need pre-encoded LF stock or HF blanks, and — for LF orders — your region code, facility code, and card-number range. If you are uncertain of any parameter, our technical team can work through it with you before order confirmation.
Security ID Systems also supplies compatible credentials for other enterprise proprietary platforms where Gallagher is deployed alongside a secondary system. For sites that also run Lenel, Avigilon, or Software House readers, see our Lenel 42 bit compatible card, Avigilon compatible card, and Software House CCOTZ 37 bit compatible card product lines respectively. Our custom facility code and high-security format guide is useful for sites with non-standard bit structures.
